• Dr. Witzke

Dr. Ron C Witzke founded Southside dental in 2012 with the primary objective of creating a dental clinic that could deliver affordable quality care for the people of Medicine Hat and the surrounding area. His second goal was to ensure every person in Medicine Hat and area had access to all possible dental treatments without having to leave the community. Working in association with local medical and dental professionals this goal has also been achieved.

Dr. Witzke sees patients Monday to Friday during regular business hours and is available on an emergency basis evenings and weekends.

Dr. Witzke enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has spent the last twenty years learning the latest techniques and combining them with traditional dental treatments to create a practical approach to dental care that focuses on offering the patient a multitude of options to care for their mouths.

Dr. Witzke received many academic awards during high school and college in Medicine Hat. Following college he moved to Edmonton where he received his B.ScMedSci from the Faculty of Medicine and Oral Health Science followed by his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. During his time at the University of Alberta he received awards in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, the restoration of teeth both present and absent for functional and cosmetic reasons.

Dr. Witzke then opened his first dental clinic in Russell, Manitoba which he still maintains and where he was fortunate to work with Dr. Vern Rosnoski who had over forty years of experience in the dental field. Dr. Rosnoski was kind enough to share his vast knowledge of and experience in traditional dental practices giving Dr. Witzke the ability to perform a number of procedures which he can now offer as alternative treatments for his patients. Being over four hours from the nearest major centre also required that Dr. Witzke obtain extra training in and become adept at many procedures that are normally referred to specialists. This included handling major traumas at the local hospital, complex dental surgeries, comprehensive orthodontic treatment, and treating special needs patients.

While based in Russell, Dr. Witzke spent three years practicing Dentistry in New Zealand where he was introduced to innovative and alternative treatments which he incorporated into his practices allowing him to offer an even broader set of options to his patients. After returning to Russell he relocated back to Medicine Hat. After two years he opened Southside Dental, a practice where he could use the knowledge and experience he had obtained to deliver the kind of care he would wish to receive in a positive environment.

Dr. Witzke’s latest project is the construction and operation of a hospital grade operating theatre with his father Dr. Ron W Witzke. This will allow the people of Medicine Hat and area to obtain Medical and Dental procedures under sedation and general anaesthesia in a state of the art facility eliminating the need to travel to other cities.
